Reflecting on our first season and looking forward to the next one. We can thank 2024 for many gifts: berries, vegetables, flowers, new animal friends, delicious dinners, and stupendous aurora borealis displays. We can rejoice in learning from our many failures, smile, and not take ourselves too seriously. We can gratefully welcome another year of listening in reverence to mother nature, our great teacher.

“My actions are my only true belongings. I cannot escape the consequences of my actions. My actions are the ground on which I stand.”
Thich Nhat Hahn
My mom and I planted the larger trees 21 years ago as seedlings. The consequence of this action is another generation of conifers filling empty space in a fallow field.

The bright side of invasive species…
2 cups autumn olive berries
1 cup wild grapes
1 macintosh apple
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
Put all ingredients except for sugar in a sauce pan and simmer until fruit is broken down and soft (about 20 minutes).
Run through a food mill and pour puree back into the sauce pan with the 1/2 cup of sugar.
Simmer until the consistency of a soft jam (will set further after it cools)
