what’s happening in 2026?
Current Initiatives
-

Cultivating abundance
We are continuing to work with nature to grow an abundance of diverse edibles and medicinals in a way that nourishes us, the land, and the wildlife we share it with. This includes using regenerative practices such as no-till, polyculture, and ecological farming to grow annuals, focusing on perennials, and implementing food-forest gardens that mimic the natural ecosystems of our northern climate.

Incorporating livestock in an ecological framework
We are in the process of growing our small ruminant herd (goat kids due March 2026!) and implementing grazing and livestock keeping practices that benefit our animals, increase dairy and egg production, and most importantly nurture the land and local wildlife. These include rotational grazing, targeted grazing for invasive species, and holistic management practices.

Re-wild and reforest
Our whole project at the farm started with a desire to return trees to the once densely forested fields that make up most of our 16 acres. Each year, we plant and care for hundreds of native trees, shrubs, and perennials. While we generally do not engage in land management, we employ practices that improve biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. These include controlled burns, targeted grazing, protecting and caring for native trees and bushes, and establishing native pollinator habitat.

Market gardening
In 2026 we will dip our toes into the market gardening scene, with fresh flowers, herbs, and produce available at accessible prices in our newly constructed farm store!
-

Barn Restoration
We are in the process of restoring our 125 year old barn into a community space. We hope to create housing, a production kitchen, gathering spaces, and creative spaces all for community use in the massive and beautiful building that has housed livestock on the farm since 1900.

Rolling View Farm Day Camp
We are excited to introduce Rolling View Farm Camp! Summer 2026 we will offer 2 4-day day camp sessions for 7-10 year olds. Through gardening activities, instruction, and exploration on the farm, kids will learn how their food is grown, the names, identification, uses, and stories of Northern Michigan flora and fauna, and how farming intersects with art, science, and fun! Details for interested families will be available late winter 2026.

Building community
Summer 2026 we will host a diversity of community events, including continuing our weekly “coffee breaks”, outdoor live music, and more. The farm has always been a place of strong, local community, and it is our goal to keep this legacy going. In uncertain times, we believe the best way to create resilience to adversity is to get to know and build strong relationships with local community. So stop on by! To stay up to date on any events we host at the farm, follow us on Instagram. (See contact page)

Rolling View Volunteers
2026 will be our second summer welcoming farm stay volunteers through WWOOF USA. See our volunteer page for more details. We also accept day volunteers, and have gotten to know so many amazing community members through shared work on the farm! If you are interested in day volunteering, please contact us via the phone or email listed on our contact page.
